The New Schools at Carver

The New Schools at Carver formerly the George Washington Carver Comprehensive High School, is a high school in Atlanta, Georgia and part of Atlanta Public Schools.[1] Carver includes many schools in one. Schools include Early College, Technology, Performing Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Health Science and Research.[2]

Performing arts

The school of the arts mission is to infuse academic rigor with artistic excellence. Their principal, Dr. Pryor, is dedicated to the students every need and always listens for new ideas to improve the school. This school is on top of the new small school program by embracing each other as a family. Each year the grades and scores get higher and higher. They have already started their first newspaper, The Aesthetic. Along with other afterschool programs like fashion design, modeling, yearbook, broadcast journalism, homework help, Ballet and African dance.

Early College

Early College focuses on preparing students for college. It compresses four years of high school and two years of college into four years. Students reaching the 11th grade some in 10th also enroll in Georgia State University. Classes include World Geography, Civics, Geometry, Algebra I and II,Math I, American History, 9th and 10th grade literature, Speech, Biology, Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, Chinese, Spanish and more. Many students participate in extracurricular activities such as sports (e.g. football, softball and track and field), JROTC, Honor Council, Student Government, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Math club, and Drama Club. Extended field trips include Outward Bound.

Health Sciences and Research

The School of Health Sciences and Research focuses on preparing high school students for careers in the medical field. Having a student population of a little over 400 students, Principal Darian C. Jones and the Dreamkeepers of the 'LAB' instruct children in the areas of Emergency Medicine, Nursing, and other medical pathways. Students are often engaged in programs with partners such as Emory, Morehouse, Spelman, and Georgia Institute of Technology. In the spring of 2009, students from HSR embarked on a once in a lifetime trip to Egypt, inspired by the promise of Dr. Jones to the first graduating class; the Legacy Class.
